Aberdyfi
- About 40 minutes drive away, fantastic sandy safe beach with harbour. Very popular.
Aberystwyth- About 15 minutes drive away, with lovely beach and Promenade, Pier with Restaurant and Amusements. Ruined Castle, Harbour plus Cliff Funicular Railway to top of Constitution Hill with café and amazing views. Supermarkets, Large Retailers, KFC, Macdonalds, and many other places to eat including superb Wetherspoons in old Station. Antique and Charity Shops aplenty!
Aberystwyth (Plascrug) Leisure Centre
- About 15 minutes drive away. 25 metre swimming pool, Fitness Centre, Squash Courts.
Borth
- Safe sandy beach with Lifeguard Station, Lifeboat Station, Links Golf Course, Wild Animal Kingdom, Restaurants, Pubs, Fish & Chips, Take away outlets, well stocked Nisa supermarket, Pharmacy, Health Centre, Vets, On Bus route, On Mainline Railway from Shrewsbury.
Borth Golf Club
- About 3 minutes drive. 18 hole Sandy Links Course. Visitors welcome all year round. Book a Tee Time online, or pop down and see them.
Borth Station Museum
- About 3 minutes drive away. As it says-Old Borth Station Preserved in Original condition and housing a collection of memorabilia.
Bow Street
- No--not in London but the next nearest Town. Pubs, Spar Shop, Filling station, Builders Merchants, on the way to Aberystwyth, about 10 minutes drive.
Bro Ddfi Leisure Centre
- SY20 8ER About 20 minutes drive away. Fitness Centre & swimming pool with water chutes.
Bwlch Nant Yr Arian
- About 20 minutes drive. Red Kite Feeding & Visitor Centre. Also marked trails for walking, running, and Mountain Biking. At feeding times there must be at least 50 Red Kites in the air!

- About 30 minutes drive away. See the latest developments in future Technology. Eco-friendly inventions and ideas for the benefit of Mother Earth!
Clarach Bay
- Wonderful hidden bay well worth a visit. Go through Bow Street and Follow signs to turn right for Clarach Bay.
Coed Y Brenin
- About 50 minutes drive away. Huge forest area with Visitor Centre, Mountain Bike Hire and Marked Trails, unlimited walking and hiking but don't get lost and dress appropriately please.
Cycling
- On your doorstep for as far as you like or can manage. Cycle along the beach road down to Ynylas National Nature Reserve, with several marked trails.
Devil's Bridge
- About 35 minutes drive away. Mysterious old double bridge with lovely waterfall and views. Also the destination of the Vale of Rheidol Narrow Gauge Railway so maybe combine the two?
Dolgellau
- About 45 minutes drive away. Lovely old Welsh Market Town on the banks of the River Wnion. Old Churches, Ruined Abbey, Shops, Restaurants, large riverside Park. Start of the Mawddach Trail with fantastic cycle and walking trails within the Estuary.
Fishing
- Free from any beach, or locally there are several dedicated Fisheries with Ponds and Lakes for Course fish. Game fishing available on rivers with appropriate licenses.
Funicular Railway
- At end of Aberystwyth Promenade-one goes up-one comes down! Water powered Railed Carriage lift system to top of Constitution Hill, with Café and fantastic views over Aberystwyth.
Machynlleth
- About 20 minutes drive away. Another lovely old Welsh Market town, ancient Capital of Wales, home to Owain Glyndwr's Parliament Building. Delightful and imposing ornate Clock Tower, dating from 1874. Impressive street Market every Wednesday. Huge carpark, Rugby Club, and Bro Ddfi Leisure Centre.
Security
- There are 24 hour security patrols around the site, but generally West and Mid Wales doesn't suffer from high levels of crime. However, please be vigilant at all times. Speak to Reception if you have any concerns.
Tal y Llyn Lake
- About 55 minutes drive away. Large Glacial Ribbon Lake with good fishing and small boat hire. Average depth is only 3 metres. Follow the road up the valley for fantastic views; travel 5 mins further and sample the superb menu at The Cross Foxes Restaurant. Back by the lake, enjoy hospitality at Tyn y Cornel restaurant.
Talyllyn Railway
- About 55 minutes drive away. The first preserved railway in the world, it runs seven miles through outstandingly beautiful countryside, from just above Abergynolwyn into the heart of Tywyn.
Tywyn
- About 45 minutes drive away. Delightful Welsh Seaside town, sandy beach which is usually a lot quieter than Aberdyfi.
Vale of Rheidol Railway
- About 15 minutes drive away. Narrow gauge railway re-creating the age of Edwardian Steam. From Aberystwyth the little steam engine climbs 200 metres in it's 12 mile journey to Devil's Bridge, passing through ancient woodland and mountain scenery.
Wetherspoons
- About 15 minutes drive away. Located in the old station building in the centre of Aberystwyth, Yr Hen Orsaf is open 7 days from early to late to provide that tried and trusted formula for dining out.
Ynyslas Dyfi National Nature Reserve and Centre
- About 5 minutes drive away. Free entry to amazing sand dunes, astounding bird watching, Botanists paradise with rare flowers and Orchids, colourful Butterflies, a submerged forest only visible at low tide, possible Dolphin and Porpoise sightings from the beach, and pre-planned walking trails.
Obviously there is loads more to see and do, and this is only intended to be a brief introduction to the highlights that Wales can offer. All of the above should be accessible within an hours leisurely drive from the Brynowen site.
